Facebook is creating a robot to install fiber optic Internet, and this is what you should know about it

Facebook Engineering is a technology developer who aims to take optical fiber cables to the next level.
Creating and connecting optical fiber networks to transmit data is neither easy nor cheap; In most cases, developing these networks is not profitable, since small tunnels must be dug for them, unless the same cable system is used in a city at the same time.
Facebook engineers noticed this issue, given that the United States, despite the fact that it is one of the most advanced countries in the world, has fiber-optic networks in only 30% of the total wires dedicated to the Internet.
To make the process profitable, they did two things: First and foremost, they developed a cable that weighed nearly 10 times less than a kilometer of conventional wire, as well as being incredibly thin and strong.
And perhaps most importantly, they created a robot that simply grabs the existing electrical wires and spreads the fiber-optic cable spirally over the electric cable, coiled over it.
The robot is able to operate independently and deploy 1 km of wire in 90 minutes. In addition, it is able to avoid obstacles and will only require a team of about two or three people with a truck to transport it and of course several kilometers of cables.

Facebook will not own these networks; They are adopting a business model where they rent the robot and service to incumbent carriers so they can take care of the service and the maintenance of the network.
